Shawn Gilheeney Statement:
Providence changes... but my artistic reactions are inspired not by new buildings or memories of old ones but rather by the beauty of natural elements conflicting with structures. The constant experience of urban decay and physical deterioration helps me explore an accumulation of layers of information in my work. Bricks, rusty pipes, and structural elements all help to organize visual information. The images I create are extracting aspects of disrepair that are usually looked on as unsightly and attempting to create beautiful decay.
